The Illustrated Shahnameh

The book further explores related historical information, the geography of the events described in the Shahnameh, the background and development of each story, and comparisons between individual Shahnameh narratives and the literary traditions of other cultures.

It also includes thematic dossiers on broader aspects of the Shahnameh—such as occupations, food, banners, weapons, magical creatures, customs and traditions, forms of entertainment, and many other subjects. Together, these sections are intended to create a comprehensive reference work covering the wide range of information connected with Ferdowsi and the Shahnameh.

The text is based on the most recent and scholarly critical edition of the Shahnameh, prepared by the late Dr. Djalal Khaleghi-Motlagh, and draws on an extensive body of the latest research in Shahnameh studies. It has also been reviewed and edited by internationally recognized scholars specializing in the Shahnameh.

Despite its scholarly precision, documentation, and attention to sources, the book is written in a clear, fluent, contemporary style, making it accessible and enjoyable for a general readership.
